What is up with all the fake temporary tags circulating around NYC?
I am a New York dealer and I can tell you as a matter of fact that most New York dealers issue license plates so that no temporary tag is needed or allowed for in-state sales. For out of state sales, New York dealers may issue 30 day in-transit tags for residents of other states. Temporary tags do regular show up in New York state on vehicles purchased in other states on vehicles intended to be registered in those other states or in New York state. Out of state dealers regularly do business in New York state and it is completely legal. Most temporary tags are legal and proper, however, the system is sometimes abused for person to person automobile sales.
